consistency and a diverse but functional aesthetic have kept berlin based record label vakant ahead of most imprints operating in the same space. having released records since 2004 they have focused on working with only a select number of artists as they believe this is the only way to endure in a scene which is susceptible to trends, with premiesku being part of the family as well as the likes of dewalta and avatism. having already released a highly successful ep on the label in 2014, and more recently being a part of the labels latest anniversary compilation, 10 years vakant, the romanian trio return with a driving four track ep. this ep features catchy melodies, vivid emotion and driving, floor-focussed percussion, which consists of three original tracks as well as the ever-dependable varhat stepping up on remix duties. one of frances most exciting exports, varhat has already released a string of impressive records on labels such as mulen and howl. his interpretation of cu balans brings a signature sound which portrays a lighter more bouncy feel to the track. premiesku which consists of livio & roby and george g are a romanian joint alias that have been releasing and performing together for over nine years. their widespread influence on the flourishing underground scene is no secret, their innovative live performances, and constant flow of cutting edge productions remain one of their nation s leading lights in the field.

bruno pronsato returns with his first new artist album in 6 years. entitled us drag, it’s the follow-up to 2011’s critically acclaimed lovers do— lauded by pitchfork as a “striking and massive statement,” and decorated with a 4.5/5 rating by resident advisor. the new record, which finds the ex-punk rock drummer exploring dense, interlocking rhythms and unorthodox tuning systems, was recorded in berlin during the second half of 2016, and features a collaboration with liars’ frontman angus andrew. after the vast, complex arrangements of his previous albums, the 9 recordings on us drag are relatively more upfront and direct, with a particular focus on bells, tuned percussion and the sequential circuits six-trak synthesizer (used to create many of the album’s synth parts). pronsato’s ongoing collaboration with yonatan levi continues, with the israeli bassist appearing on the album’s second track

the second edition of vicarious memories by these hidden hands realises 5 finely crafted remixes of last years expansive lp of the same title. this version features powerful reworks from telefon tel aviv, hypoxia, lustmord, jk flesh and death in vegas. telefon tel aviv offers up his reinterpretation of glasir a solemnly disconcerting reduction of the original flooded with warmth, depth and space. this is followed by a contribution from hypoxia aka the illustrious drumcell, who makes his mark on the beautiful vocalised track telepath, imparting a heavy sense of melancholia and depth on to the listener. a dark atmosphere is woven by lustmord on his remake of socotra, with its enveloping celestial melodies and ominous reverberating drones that unfold throughout. jk flesh boosts the energy of the release with his distinguishably distorted mix of industrial, dub and power electronics that shuffle and roll the listener along this spectrally bright reincarnation of dendera light. british producer death in vegas embraces the mystical facet of angkor, patiently exploring serene soundscapes with much depth and colour.
oberst & buchner are next up on freeride millenium and the two bavaria born, vienna based producers deliver an ep that offers their interpretation of what modern summer togetherness sounds like. the talented pair started making music together aged 15 and aim to cook up emotionally driven jams. they do so on labels like heimlich, underyourskin records, schönbrunner perlen, lokd, and always get the juices going, as they do once again here. beginning with the brilliant greg we dive into a breakbeat bath of summery chords as playful claves dance on the horizon. it is a melodically rich track with spiritual feelings that really bliss you out. on the moodier emile night time arrives and warm chords mix with jangling, organic glass and percussive tinkles that reflect rays of light. it s a perfectly jazzy and loose number that really suspends you in a rueful place. last but not least, embrace is a fluid intergalactic convention with sparse drum kicks weighed down by sombre synths. a skittish, dubstep style groove then comes in and elevates the track with gentle guitar licks and slithering synths adding colour, and overall it has the same zoned out feel as a thousand-yard stare. this is a brilliant mood ep that mixes up the synthetic with the organic, creating some fascinating grooves as a result. the release once again features original artwork from the ever talented daniel rajcsanyi. thanks for purchasing a real copy!

the second part of the jacob f. desvarieux anthology on endless flight brings three more productions of the fabled french zouk veteran with roots in guadeloupe.
the song “sika” by georges décimus, bass player of desvarieux’s band kassav, features outer-national synth works driven by salsa-like percussions and sweet steel-drum melodies, dancing around the seducing zouk guitar chords of desvarieux. a truely moving psychedelic zouk gem, that is for the first available on vinyl only since its release on georges décimus’s solo debut mini-album “la vie” in 1983.
the second song “avèou doudou” was firstly released in 1985 and was written by the martinique born zouk star and former kassav keyboarder jean-claude naimro. his tune spreads feathery synth-laden caribean boogy vibes, enlarged by his tempting voice and more zouk guitar magic by desvarieux. the third gem comes from the zouk pioneer patrick saint-éloi, listens to the name “do bay lan main”, was never re-released since 1984, features the former kassav singer saint-éloi on the microphone, electric piano, organ and mini moog and gets once again softly heated by jacob f. desvarieux’s enchanting zouk guitar virtuosity. as already on the jacob f. desvarieux: anthology pt 1. release, japanese producer for special affairs kuniyuki delivers a unique edit. his version of “sika” is made for eternalness dance floor moments. the steel drums dance with more magic than in the original. propelled by spaced out synth-sounds, echoed drums and the discreet guitar chords of desvarieux, kuniyuki’s version of “sika” is ready to be a mind-expanding summer hit on all open minded dancefloors around the globe.

ultra-rare d.i.y minimal / synth-pop / industrial / darkwave album from 1986! . kozmonaut was the personal project of a young & talented canadian musician called michael gutierrez, who moved to san francisco in the early 80s. influenced by kraftwerk and german culture / electronic music, michael recorded the “flieg” album all by himself at his garage studio, using the pseudonym of “hans schiller”.
